Let me not burst in ignorance, but tell
Why thy canonized bones, hearsed in death,
Have burst their cerements; why the sepulchre,
Wherein we saw thee quietly inurn'd,
Hath oped his ponderous and marble jaws
To cast thee up again. What may this mean,
That thou, dead corse, again in complete steel
Revisit'st thus the glimpses of the moon,
Making night hideous, and we fools of nature
So horridly to shake our disposition
With thoughts beyond the reaches of our souls?

-- Hamlet Act 1, scene 4

Dewey arrived in Necropolis in May of 1998, transferred here by the Navy as a recruiter. After introducing himself to the Prince, then Morrigan of Clan Brujah, Dewey sought his Clan. After making contact with his Primogen, Damascus Dreiburgen, he was assigned the duties of Clan Enforcer. He faithfully performed his duties, going so far as to mislead other Kindred about his true Clan, posing as a Brujah, Malkavian or Torreador to gain information useful to the Ventrue. There are still those that question which Clan he truly belongs to.

He quickly began building a business beginning with a corporation that owned only a 21' Bayliner boat. Over a period of months he gradually built a small shipping company, Trans-Kansas Shipping. He worked for months salvaging a sunken river tug and making careful business deals; buying undesirable land and leveraging buy outs of salvage companies to gain the equipment and material to rebuild the hulk of the tug "Jenny".

Dewey met his friend Morgan Powyll in the old Shadows bar. Their first meeting was less than encouraging - and nearly came to blows. Dewey's first contact with Morgan took place during an attempt to stop a breach of the Masquerade. In an effort to prevent a hedge mage from repeating what she had seen of a display of vampiric powers, Dewey tried to ghoul the woman, not realizing that she was under Morgan's protection. Morgan moved to stop Dewey, and this set the tone for Dewey's next several months in Necropolis. It was not unusual for Dewey to be hindered, staked or punished for merely doing his job as he saw it. This cruel quirk of fate has plagued him ever since.

In August of 1998, Dewey contracted the dreaded vampiric disease "Cyndritis". He was the second known case of the plague that ravaged the city, killing several Kindred and filling multitudes with fear. The victim of several "cures" that did more harm than good, he eventually recovered from the disease as a result of a rite performed by Fianna Theurges. His friend and sometimes clanmate, Katherine O'Reilly, conducted the negotiations with the Garou; a fact that he has never forgotten despite the occasional flare of temper with Katherine, whom he affectionately refers to as "Kate".

With the fall of Morriagan from power came dark days for the Ventrue. There was an abortive coup d'etat within the Clan. Garrett Laserian attempted to seize power by discrediting or eliminating the Elders of the Clan, including Dasmascus Dreiburgen and Luc de Boiar. The Ventrue weathered the storm, which eventually led to Garrett's untimely and suspicious demise. There are those that claim his spirit lurks within the walls of Fallen Angels, trapped for eternity by the wards against spirits placed there by the Tremere. In these dark nights Dewey found solace with his bosom companion, the Gangrel Guylian McAran.

Jessica, the Gangrel Prince of Necropolis began her short and tragic reign. Dewey, like most of the inhabitants of the city, tried desperately to maintain a low profile while the Primogen Council struggled with the Prince for power. After the capture of Jessica by the Sabbat she was forced to abdicate. During this tumultuous time a neonate of Clan Ventrue was also captured by the Sabbat. Dewey received a gloating phone call in Fallen Angels from the Sabbat Archbishop, Maria Louisa Montoya. In a fit of pique he foolishly called her a coward, and swore that if she ever ventured out of her fortress - Darqness - he would send her to the final death.

Maria Surprised Dewey while he was feeding some nights later. Only the fortuitous intervention of fate saved Dewey from the Final Death that night. Realizing that Dewey was in no way a match for him in one on one combat, Maria delighted herself for the next several months by stalking her much weaker adversary and toying with him. He spent months hobbling around with new wounds, and was tormented by Maria's "gifts" of boxes filled with the heads of children. Finding allies, he set numerous ambushes for the Archbishop with limited success. He managed to hurt her badly on a few occasions but was unable to accomplish her final death. Eventually becoming distracted by the Sabbat war with the Gangrel, the Archbishop lost interest in Dewey, but not before delivering chilling news to him: His sire had come to Necropolis to seek him.

Learning that his sire was Sabbat, he vowed to destroy her, He and she have since played a macabre game of hide and seek, each striving to find the other at a moment of weakness when they could strike the final blow.

With Jessica's disgrace and subsequent fall from power in December of 1998, Damascus Dreiburgen was made Prince of Necropolis. Vergadian became the Ventrue Primogen, and Dewey continued to serve as the Clan Ventrue Security Officer. In March of 1999, Vergadian became convinced that the job of Clan Ventrue Security Officer was too difficult for one kindred after Dewey was burned to incapacity in an assault on a Tzmiche's crypt. Having nearly lost his security officer on more than one occasion, Vergadian concluded that it was risky to leave the safety of the Clan in the hands of one Kindred. Dewey was replaced by Rebecca Monroe and Katherine O'Reilly, and promoted to Assistant Primogen.

He spends his nights still, a Soldier for the Camarilla and in service to his Clan.

Dewey is a sandy haired sailor wearing dress uniform, looking as though he just stepped off a Crackerjacks box. He has rosy cheeks and is slender and wiry, around 5'7" with a boyish smile and sparkling green eyes. He could be handsome, but perhaps it's just the uniform… He wears a wide white canvass belt cinched tightly around his waist from which hang a white baton and a white military issue holster. His sailor hat perches on his head at a rakish angle, and an intricately braided white cord hangs around his neck, the free end tucked neatly into his right breast pocket fixed to his bosun's whistle. His left sleeve is adorned with the rank of a first-class petty officer: three red chevrons point down with a white ship's propeller tucked into the "V" of the chevrons, topped by a white eagle. On his right sleeve is a black armband emblazoned with the letters "SP".
